A contingent of over 30 swimmers from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club went to Borehamwood last weekend to compete in the ASA Herts Development Meet.  Between them they brought home 24 medals and 10 Speeding Tickets.

Aimee Abrey,10, was top of the medal league with a gold in the 200m backstroke, silver in the 200m freestyle, a bronze in the 50m backstroke, as well as a Speeding Ticket for swimming inside the County Qualifying Time on her 50m freestyle.

Alisha Kan, competing in the same age group, won a gold for her 200m IM and bronze in both the 200m breaststroke and 50m butterfly.

Tom Worrell, also 10, claimed two silvers for his 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle and broke the speed limit on the 50m breaststroke.

Paige Ford, at only 9, took gold in the 200m breaststroke.  Fellow nine-year-old, Kyle Holmes, claimed gold in the 200m IM as well as a Speeding Ticket for his 50m butterfly.

Thomas King, 10, got tantalisingly close to a County Time in his 200m IM for which he took home the gold medal.

Joe Philips, 11, took silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the same stroke at 50m.

Emily Jelfs, 10, won silver in the 50m backstroke and there were bronze medals for Emma Riley, 9, in the 50m butterfly, Payal Patel in the 200m breaststroke and Thomas Kelly, 9, in the 200m freestyle.

Conor Parker scored a bronze in his 50m butterfly as well as a Speeding Ticket in the 200m freestyle.

Other swimmers who proved too fast, picking up Speeding Tickets with their County Qualifying Times were Megan Pirrie, 9, in the 200m breaststroke and 200m IM, Gabrielle Cole, 11, in the 200m and 50m breaststroke and Joseph Prior, 9, in the 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and the 50m backstroke.

It was a very successful day for the club’s young swimmers who showed lots of improvement.  Many will be moving onto compete in the County Championships next March.
