Seven swimmers from Hemel Hempstead SC have been competing in Norwich over the last two weekends at the annual ASA Regional Championships.  Having met the exacting qualifying times, it was time for them to square up against the fastest swimmers from six counties.

Victoria Fisher, 13, put in a medal winning performance in her first ever Regional Championships.  She made two finals, picking up the bronze medal in her 100m backstroke, as well as coming sixth in the 200m event.  After a storming year, Victoria has qualified for Nationals in July where she will swim the 100m backstroke against the top swimmers in the country.  Victoria finished in 36th place in the overall BAGCAT points.

Freddie Woodcock competed in 8 events and his consistent performances put him in 10th place overall in the 12 years’ boys age group.    He finished 8th in the 800m freestyle and the 400m IM, 9th in the 200m backstroke, 10th in the 200m IM and the 200m freestyle, breaking two club records in the process.  He was also 11th in the 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke and 14th in the 100m freestyle.

Hannah Bagley, 11, came 19th in her first Regional swim in the 200m breaststroke and improved her position the following day to 12th in the 100m event.  She also swam the 200m freestyle and the 200m IM, in which she finished 24th.  Overall, she came a highly respectable 22nd out of 61 girls.

Tom Sherriff, 13, came 24th in the 400m freestyle, 26th in the 100m freestyle and 28th in the 200m.  He was 20th in the 200m backstroke and 31st in the 200m IM.  He finished 24th out of 52 in the overall BAGCAT standings.

Kelsey Doyle, 12, also making her first appearance at Regionals this year, finished 17th in the 100m breaststroke and 20th in the 200m event.  She also competed in the 200m IM, the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.  With all four BAGCAT categories under her belt, she finished 31st out of 63 competitors.

Freestyle specialist Lois Moore, 13, swam consistently to finish 14th in the 400m event, 17th in the 100m, and 20th in the 200m, matching her PBs along the way.  Overall she came 39th.

Freya Mayhew, 10, missed out on the first weekend, due to an injury, but despite this, put in three brave performances on the second weekend in the 200m and 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, in which she came 15th.
