A small team of five Masters travelled to Newmarket on Saturday 5th October for the East Region Masters and Senior Swimming Championships, they managed to bring home a stunning 18 medals and break 4 East Region Masters Records. The Championships brings swimmers together from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk plus this year saw a team of swimmers travel from Spain especially for the event.
Six Masters from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club competed at the European Masters Swimming Championships from 3rd – 6th September 2013 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The competition, attended by nearly 4500 swimmers with over 15000 swims, delivered some record breaking times with new European Masters Records and World Masters Records been produced. Surprise competitors such as former World Record holder and four-time Olympic Champion Inge De Bruijn had also taken to the stage.
Megan Pirrie and Emily Jelfs travelled to Swansea to compete in the Welsh Summer Nationals from 27th to 30th of July 2013, they joined over 147 competing clubs from Wales, Scotland and England for some fast competitive swimming.
Tuesday 2nd July 2013 saw Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club visited by Craig Gibbons GB International Swimmer, he spent time with a number of the swimming squads helping them to refine their swimming skills.
Congratulations to all our swimmers. Despite the warm conditions 176 swimmers took part in 422 swims, achieving a fantastic 278 PB’s. The Club now already have 20 swimmers with qualifying times for Counties 2014.
3 club records were also broken during the gala, congratulations to Grace Rayner in the 14 year old girls 100IM and to Reuben Balch in the 8yr old boys 50m breast (breaking a record that had stood since 2005) and also in the 25m Fly. Reuben claimed four first place finishes on the night.
