Raise Club Funds

Raise Club Funds
Children in Need
Tuesday, 06 December 2016 15:28
We raised a magnificent £3,812.40 in support of Children in Need - £ 286.98 from the Cake Sale and £ 3,525.42 from the Sponsored Swim - which will go a long way in helping the lives of children across the UK. A massive thank you to all those swimmers who took part and raised money, all the helpers who supported them, (and to those who ate all the cakes!) and to Lauren Wilding for organising it. It was great to see the team spirit the event created. The swimmer who raised the most money was Louisa Wilson, and something is on its way to her in recognition.

Records update
Tuesday, 06 December 2016 11:48
With meets coming thick and fast at this time of year we're running a little behind on reporting them for which my apologies.  Last weekend, fourteen swimmers attended the Black Lion meet in Kent, in a new departure introduced by Head Coach Oliver travelling down by minibus and spending the weekend at a local venture centre unencumbered by parents!  You can read a blog of their adventures here.  With over 75 PBs it was a resounding success with special mention for Joe Coldwell who set new Club age group records in both the 50 and 100 breast.  The same weekend, but rather closer to home at St Albans, Holly Robinson also set new Club age group records in the 50 free and 100 and 200 back.

Club Champs - 800/1500
Monday, 05 December 2016 11:28
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the 800 and 1500m events held jointly with Watford SC.  Alice Fender set a new open record for the 800 free as well as breaking the old age group record for a 15 year old by over 30 seconds.  Georgia Purkis set a new age group record for 14 yr olds, improving her own record set only a month ago by nearly 8 seconds, and Grace Cawley set a new age group record for 10 yr olds, breaking a record previously set in 2010.  Both Alice and Georgia set Summer Regional qualifying times.

Hemel swimmers make a splash for Pudsey
Monday, 21 November 2016 08:34
Young swimmers from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club took part in two events to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

On Tuesday during their training session, junior members had got baking and held a cake sale raising over £250. They didn’t stop there…… on Sunday over 70 members made a splash and took part in a sponsored swim. A total of 154,075 metres was swum by all the swimmers, including some of our very youngest Aquabears being just 7 years old.

Lauren Wilding, Development Coach at Hemel says “I am incredibly proud of all the swimmers and the hard work they put into both events, what an amazing achievement raising over £1,000 for a fantastic charity.”

So close for Alice
Monday, 21 November 2016 08:54
The last chance national qualifier event at Guildford S.C. saw Alice Fender set a new Open Club record for the 200 free in the heats, only to break it once again in the finals.  Unfortunately for Alice she finished just 6 hundredths of a second off a national time.

Club Champs - 400 free
Thursday, 17 November 2016 11:35
Congratulations to the 71 Hemel swimmers who participated in the first of our collaborative Club Championships with Watford SC and swam the 400 free.  Georgia Purkis broke her own age group Club record set just last weekend by a massive 5 seconds in an epic contest with Alice Fender which Alice just edged.  There were 42 personal best times and no fewer than 23 swimmers entered the event for the first time, gaining valuable experience at this distance.

Arena 2016 - round 2
Tuesday, 15 November 2016 17:50
The Arena team showed great tenacity and fight throughout the second round of the competition at Luton, coming fifth on the night with many close finishes.  Despite a number of absences they actually swam faster than in the previous round, posting the fourth fastest time ever by a Hemel team, suggesting that there's still more to come in the last round.  Alice Fender won the 100 free, there were 17 other second and third places, 11 individual PBs and three Club age group records by Heidi Gibbens in the 100 breast and Sam Gaines in the 100 arena 2016 rd 2 2
fly and 200 IM (breaking his brother's record by 7 hundredths of a second!). Sam was also part of the boys u16 relay team along with Ashley Coombs, Jonny Farrow, Cameron Clark (in the free) and Joe Coldwell (medley) which set new Club Arena records in both their relays, breaking records previously set in 2008.  Other Club Arena records were set by Ashley, Georgia Purkis and Jack Christie.
